Black Tea Brewing Guide
Black tea (Assam, Darjeeling, Ceylon, English Breakfast, Earl Grey) is fully oxidized, giving it a bold, malty character and higher caffeine than green tea. It’s delicious plain or with milk and sweetener.
How to Brew Black Tea
-
Tea-to-water ratio: 1–2 tsp (2–3 g) per 1 cup (250 ml)
-
Water temperature: 212°F / 100°C (rolling boil)
-
Steeping time: 3–5 minutes (shorter = lighter, longer = stronger)
- Strain & enjoy
Serving Suggestions
-
Milk & sugar or honey: classic, creamy café style
-
Iced black tea: brew strong, chill, serve with lemon
-
Chai latte: steep spiced black tea, top with steamed or frothed milk
Pro Tips
-
Preheat your cup/teapot so the brew stays hot and extracts evenly.
-
Don’t oversteep: astringency can creep in past 5 minutes.
-
Re-steep once with a slightly longer second infusion for economy.
