What You'll Need

For the Affogato:

  • 2 scoops vanilla ice cream
  • 4–6 oz Apple Pie coffee, brewed hot and strong

Optional Finishes:

  • Light dusting of cinnamon
  • Thin caramel drizzle

How To Make It

  1. Scoop the ice cream. Put two scoops of vanilla ice cream into a short wide glass or small ceramic mug. This is the vessel — it needs to be wide enough that the coffee has somewhere to pool.
  2. Brew it hot and strong. Brew your Apple Pie coffee stronger than you normally would — about 20–25% less water than usual. It needs to stand up to the ice cream. Pour it fresh and hot.
  3. Pour over slowly. Pour the hot coffee directly over the ice cream in a slow, steady pour. The ice cream will start to melt immediately at the edges — that's exactly what you want.
  4. Wait 30 seconds. Let the ice cream soften and the coffee settle before you pick it up. The melting cream becomes the body of the drink. This is not a step to skip.
  5. Finish and serve. Dust with cinnamon or add a thin caramel drizzle if you want it. Drink immediately — the contrast between the cold melting ice cream and the hot spiced coffee is the whole point.

Swaps & Permission Slips

  • Want to go further? A scoop of cinnamon ice cream instead of vanilla takes this all the way. If your store carries it, use it.
  • No wide glass? A short mug or even a cereal bowl works. The shape is about surface area for the pour — not aesthetics.
  • Making it for company? Scoop the ice cream into glasses ahead of time and keep them in the freezer. Brew the coffee fresh when you're ready to pour. Two-minute dessert that looks like you planned it.
