Aerocano Recipe: Frothy Iced Espresso, No Milk Required
If you've scrolled past a video of iced coffee that looks like it's got soft-serve layered into it, you've seen an Aerocano. It's espresso, ice, and water — nothing else — aerated together until it turns creamy and builds those nitro-cold-brew-style ombre layers on its own. We built ours with All Jacked Up Espresso Blend, and it takes about five minutes, most of which is just standing there frothing.

The Coffee That Makes This Work
All Jacked Up Espresso Blend is a five-origin blend built to pull a proper shot, which matters here — a thin or watery espresso just gets more watery once you add ice and water to it. This one holds its body and its flavor through the dilution, so the finished drink still tastes like coffee instead of coffee-flavored water. You could use another espresso or flavored shot — but this is the one the recipe was built around.

What You Need
- 3.5 oz. crushed ice (about 4–5 standard cubes)
- 2 oz. chilled water
- Double shot of espresso, made with All Jacked Up Espresso Blend
How to Make an Aerocano
- Add the ice, then the water, then the espresso to a 2-cup mason jar, in that order. A mason jar's wide opening makes this easier than a narrow glass.
- Insert a handheld frother, keeping it near the top third of the liquid. Turn it on and froth for 20–30 seconds, or until the ice is nearly melted and the outside of the jar feels cool to the touch.
- Pour into a fresh glass to serve. The layers separate naturally into an ombre effect, similar to what you'd see in a nitro cold brew. Want it colder instead of just cool? Add fresh ice to the glass before pouring.
The Java Momma Twist
No espresso machine? Brew a strong, concentrated shot's worth using a Moka pot or Aeropress instead — same jar, same frothing method, same result. And if you want it sweet, brew the hot espresso over 1–2 tablespoons of your syrup of choice before it goes in the jar. Stirring it in while the espresso's still hot helps it dissolve clean instead of sitting at the bottom.
Aerocano FAQ
What is an Aerocano?
An Aerocano is a frothy, dairy-free iced espresso drink made by aerating a double shot of hot espresso with ice and cold water. The frothing action creates a creamy texture and natural layered look, similar to a nitro cold brew, without any milk, cream, or special equipment beyond a frother.
Is an Aerocano the same as a cold brew or nitro cold brew?
Not quite. Nitro cold brew gets its creamy texture from pressurized nitrogen forced through cold brew concentrate. An Aerocano gets a similar creamy, layered look from mechanically frothing hot espresso with ice and water — no cold brew, no nitrogen, no special tap required.
Do I need an espresso machine to make an Aerocano?
No. A Moka pot or Aeropress will get you a strong enough concentrate to sub in for the espresso shot. The frothing method stays exactly the same.
Can I make an Aerocano without a milk frother?
A handheld milk frother is the easiest way to get the texture right, but a manual pump frother or the steam wand on an espresso machine both work using the same 20–30 second aeration method.
Is an Aerocano dairy-free?
Yes — the recipe as written contains no dairy, milk, or cream of any kind. The creamy texture comes entirely from aerating the espresso, ice, and water together.
Made this one? All Jacked Up Espresso Blend is available in whole bean and espresso grind, fresh roasted to order — no decaf on this one, so grab regular. Works just as well pulled fresh for this recipe as it does in a straight black cup.
