Beyond the Cup: Apricot Crush

A honey-sweetened syrup made from Apricot Crush black tea — real apricot, apple, and marigold, steeped strong and dissolved into honey.

Black tea, real apricot, apple, and marigold — a blend that does a lot more than fill a mug.

Apricot Crush is a good tea. Steeped hot or cold, it's exactly what the name promises — bright, fruity, a little floral, backed by a real black tea base that keeps it from tasting like candy.

But the blend has more range than that. The same things that make it a good cup — real fruit, a black tea backbone, natural sweetness already built in — make it an even better syrup. And once you have the syrup, a single blend turns into an iced tea, a tea latte, a spritz, and even a batch of popsicles, each one tasting like a different thing even though they all start in the same jar.

This is where we get into what Apricot Crush can actually do.

About the Blend

ApricotCrush_Ingredients — overhead flatlay of loose leaf tea, dried apricot pieces, apple pieces, marigold petals, separated into small groupings.

Black tea is the backbone. It gives Apricot Crush the body and gentle caffeine that a purely herbal blend wouldn't have — this isn't a delicate tisane, it's a tea that can stand up to honey, milk, and ice without disappearing.

Real apricot pieces and natural apricot flavour do the obvious work — the fruit character that gives the blend its name. Not an artificial approximation. Actual apricot, steeped alongside the leaf.

Apple pieces round out the fruit profile underneath the apricot — a little sweetness, a little body, without pulling focus from the apricot itself.

Marigold flowers are the finishing touch. Marigold doesn't add much flavour on its own, but it contributes colour and a light floral note that ties the whole cup together — the difference between "fruity black tea" and something that tastes considered.

How to Brew It Straight

Before anything else, the blend on its own.

The Ratio: 1–2 tsp per 8 oz cup

The Water: 212°F — a full, rolling boil

The Time: 3–5 minutes

Pull at 3 minutes if you're drinking it plain over ice. Go closer to 5 if you're adding milk, or if you want a stronger cup to build the syrup from.

The Syrup

This is where Apricot Crush goes from "a tea I like" to "a thing I keep in my fridge and use constantly."

Because the blend already has real fruit, natural sweetness, and floral notes built in, making a syrup from it is more efficient than building a fruit syrup from scratch — the tea has already done half the work. Steep it strong, dissolve honey directly into the hot liquid, strain, and you have a syrup with genuine depth in about fifteen minutes.

Recipe

Apricot Crush Tea Syrup

Makes approximately 1 cup  ·  15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 4 tbsp (about 4–5 tsp) Apricot Crush loose leaf — double strength
  • ½ cup honey (or brown sugar — see notes)

Method

  1. Bring water to a full boil. Remove from heat and add the loose leaf.
  2. Steep 8–10 minutes — longer than a drinking cup, since you're building concentration for the syrup.
  3. Strain out the leaves and fruit pieces, pressing gently to extract the liquid. Discard the solids.
  4. Return the strained tea to the saucepan over low heat. Stir in honey until fully dissolved.
  5. Remove from heat. Cool completely before transferring to a jar.
  6. Refrigerate.

Honey allergy? Brown sugar works as a substitute — dissolve it the same way, directly into the hot strained tea.

Want a stronger apricot flavour? Steep an extra 2–3 minutes, or use a slightly heavier hand with the loose leaf.

Ways to Use the Syrup

Four builds, one syrup. Each one takes the same jar somewhere different.

Apricot Crush Iced Tea

The obvious one, and still worth doing properly. Brew Apricot Crush at standard strength, cool, pour over ice, stir in syrup to taste — start with 1–2 tbsp per glass. The syrup adds depth the straight-brewed version doesn't have on its own, without needing more tea.

Apricot Crush Iced Tea Latte with Apricot Cold Foam

Brew Apricot Crush double strength, cool, and pour over ice. Add milk of choice. Top with a spoonful of apricot cold foam — this is the finish that makes it feel like something you'd order, not just something you stirred together.

Apricot Cold Foam (3-2-1 Ratio)

  • 3 tbsp milk of choice
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • 1–2 tbsp Apricot Crush syrup

Combine in a small jar or frother cup. Froth 20–30 seconds until thick and doubled in volume. Spoon over the iced tea latte.

Apricot Crush Spritz

The easiest of the four. Fill a glass with ice, add 1–2 tbsp syrup, top with sparkling water. Stir gently. That's it — a five-minute mocktail with real depth, not just fizzy sweetness.

Apricot Crush Popsicles

Ingredients

  • 2 cups brewed Apricot Crush tea, cooled (standard strength, not double)
  • ¼ cup Apricot Crush syrup
  • Popsicle molds

Method

  1. Stir the syrup into the cooled brewed tea until fully combined.
  2. Pour into popsicle molds, leaving a little room at the top for expansion.
  3. Insert sticks and freeze at least 6 hours, or overnight for best texture.
  4. Run the mold briefly under warm water to release.

Refrigerate the syrup in a sealed jar. Best within 10–14 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different black tea for the syrup?

You can, but you'd be building the fruit and floral character back in from scratch — real apricot, apple, honey, maybe a marigold or hibiscus for colour. Apricot Crush already has all of that blended in, which is the whole reason this syrup comes together so quickly.

How long does the syrup keep?

Around 10–14 days refrigerated in a sealed jar.

Can I make this sugar-free?

Not tested yet with alternative sweeteners for this specific blend — the honey does real flavour work here, not just sweetness. Worth its own tested version rather than a straight swap.

Which of the four should I try first?

The spritz, if you want the fastest yes. The tea latte with cold foam, if you want something that feels like a real drink worth making a mess for. The iced tea, if you just want to taste what the syrup adds to something familiar. The popsicles, if you want something to hand a kid — or yourself, no judgment — on a hot afternoon.
